Kyle Larson, Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, and Jamie McMurray

Scott Dixon has more than a Verizon IndyCar Series championship to defend in 2016. Now the 35-year-old New Zealander is set up to do so.

Chip Ganassi Racing Teams announced today that Dixon will team again with fellow Ganassi drivers Tony Kanaan, Kyle Larson and Jamie McMurray to co-drive a Prototype entry in the Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance sports car race Jan. 30-31. The same quartet drove to victory in this year's Rolex 24, the sixth time a Ganassi entry has conquered the twice-around-the-clock test of man and machine.

Dixon, Verizon IndyCar Series stablemate Kanaan and Ganassi NASCAR brethren Larson and McMurray will again pilot the No. 02 Ford EcoBoost Prototype. The team will also run the No. 01 Ford Prototype driven by former Formula One driver Alex Wurz, reigning World Endurance Championship champion Brendon Hartley, three-time world touring car titlist Andy Priaulx and rising 17-year-old Canadian Lance Stroll.

The two Prototype entries are in addition to the previously announced heralded return of two Ford GTs to compete in the Rolex 24’s GT Le Mans class, with plans for the Ford GT to race later in 2016 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the 50th anniversary of the iconic car's victory there.

“We’re proud to have the defending Prototype champions from last year, along with the excitement worldwide with the reintroduction of the Ford GT,” said team owner Chip Ganassi. “I think we’ve built a very strong effort for the 2016 race in the Prototype class, which gives us two more solid chances to get to victory lane.”

Ganassi entries have won 46 races and seven season titles in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Dixon won the season-ending Verizon IndyCar Series race in 2015 at Sonoma Raceway to collect his fourth title for Chip Ganassi Racing Teams. It also marked the 100th Indy car race win and 11th overall Indy car season championship for the team.
