• Race 15 of Verizon IndyCar Series season. ... Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya leads the championship standings by nine points over Graham Rahal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Rahal starts fifth and Montoya qualified a season-low 19th, though he won the Indianapolis 500 in May after qualifying 15th and being shuffled to the rear of the field early in the race. There are 10 drivers eligible for the title.

• 2014 race: Juan Pablo Montoya started from the pole and led six times for a total of 45 laps en route to winning by 2.3403 seconds over Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves. With an average speed of 202.402 mph, it was the fastest 500-mile race in Indy car history.

• Track two-lap qualifying record: 223.871 mph (1:20.4034) by Juan Pablo Montoya on July 5, 2014. He also holds the one-lap track record of 223.920 mph set on first lap of two-lap qualifying last July.
