Test Patterns: Road America
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is coming off five consecutive weekends of on-track action with an off weekend June 12-14, but there’s still rest for the weary as five teams and 13 drivers participated in a private test June 9 at Road America.
AJ Foyt Racing, Andretti Global, Arrow McLaren, ECR and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing all turned laps on the 14-turn, 4.014-mile road course in preparation for the next race on the 2026 schedule, the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America on June 19-21.
It’s time for some itemized deductions.
Unusual Suspects Up Front
Eight of the 13 drivers participating in this test have at least one NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory, but the top of the time sheets showed two surprising names who still have yet to visit Victory Lane in this series.
Santino Ferrucci (photo, top) was quickest in the No. 14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet of AJ Foyt Racing with a lap of 1 minute, 45.0611 seconds. Nolan Siegel was second at 1:45.2064 in the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.
The quick test results came at the right time for both drivers. Ferrucci is 16th in the standings at the midway point of the season with no top-five finishes, while Siegel is 21st with his future at Arrow McLaren probably hanging in the balance.
Ferrucci is known for his streak of eight consecutive top-10 finishes in the Indy 500 to open his career, but he has shown pace on road and street courses in the past. His best career finish is second in 2025 on the streets of Detroit, and his only career NTT P1 Award came in 2024 on the road course at Portland.

Arrow McLaren Flexes
Besides Siegel (photo, above) clocking in second, Christian Lundgaard helped produce a strong test for Arrow McLaren by ending up third at 1:45.2310 in the team’s No. 7 Chevrolet.
Lundgaard has the team’s sole victory this season, winning the Sonsio Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit, the last road course the series has visited.

Rasmussen Shows Road Skills
Christian Rasmussen has become one of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ top oval racers in his two-plus seasons at ECR, with his victory last August at Milwaukee as a highlight.
But the Dane (photo, above) also showed speed Tuesday at Road America, ending up fourth at 1:45.3079 in the No. 21 Splenda Chevrolet.
Rasmussen has a history of success at Road America in INDY NXT by Firestone, as he won a race there in 2022 as a series rookie. It was his first career victory in the INDYCAR development series.
Bowties Mandatory at Top of Time Sheet
Honda-powered drivers have won all four street-circuit races this season, with Alex Palou triumphing at St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Detroit, and Kyle Kirkwood capturing the inaugural race at Arlington.
But Chevrolet and Honda have split the two road courses, with Palou winning at Barber Motorsports Park in a Honda and Christian Lundgaard finishing first with Chevy power on the IMS road course.
Chevrolet had a clear advantage at Road America in this test, with six of the top eight drivers wearing Bowties, including the top four.
Granted, the king of the Honda drivers – Palou – and Chip Ganassi Racing didn’t participate in this test, but Chevrolet probably is feeling better about its chances next weekend after a fraught Month of May and early June with various mechanical maladies in its engines.

RLL, Power Need To Find Speed
Test programs aren’t always designed to find pure speed, but the time charts don’t lie – Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Andretti Global’s Will Power didn’t have their best days Tuesday in Wisconsin.
Graham Rahal was 10th, Louis Foster 12th and Mick Schumacher (photo, above) 13th at the end of the day, indicating the team is still searching for speed and consistency as it continues to rebuild this season.
Power’s struggles in his first year at Andretti Global continued. He was ninth, more than six-tenths behind Ferrucci, in his No. 26 TWG AI Honda. The two-time series champion, a stunning 17th in points midway through the season, has two career victories and a pole at Road America.
More Testing To Come
The season will continue at a relentless pace starting next weekend at Road America, with nine races in 12 weekends to finish the 2026 schedule.
But teams still will squeeze in tests. Fourteen drivers from six teams are scheduled to test June 23 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and nine teams and 23 drivers will get into the oval-testing groove July 8 at Milwaukee Mile.
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES races July 5 at Mid-Ohio and Aug. 29-30 at Milwaukee in the only doubleheader of the season.
