Inside Line Extra: Biggest 2026 Story at Meyer Shank Racing
1 HOUR AGO
Note: This series gathers the Inside Line panel to discuss the major storyline surrounding each NTT INDYCAR SERIES team entering the 2026 season. An installment on each team will appear at INDYCAR.com on Fridays. Today’s panel examines Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian.

Curt Cavin: I think we all want to see if the team can back up what was a sneaky good season in 2025 with Felix Rosenqvist sixth in the standings and Marcus Armstrong eighth. It was something of a tale of two seasons for the organization, with Rosenqvist (photo, above) having the better first half of the season – five top-10 finishes in the first six races, including a fourth-place finish in the Indianapolis 500 – and Armstrong strong down the stretch with nine top-10 finishes in the final 11 races. The thing that is surprising to me is that the two drivers combined to lead only 36 laps during the year and never more than eight in a single race. Yet, both cars finished ahead of the three Team Penske drivers, and they were consistently performing well enough to capture the attention of the FOX cameras. So, it was sort of difficult to assess how they should be remembered for the season. Bottom line: This is a team that has made tremendous progress in recent years, and I look for it to take another step in 2026.
Eric Smith: The No. 66 entry has my eye. It had finished 18th, 19th and 20th in the three seasons prior to Marcus Armstrong’s arrival, cycling through Tom Blomqvist, Helio Castroneves and David Malukas. Armstrong (photo, below) immediately lifted the program, finishing eighth in points in 2025, the best season of his career. Winless in 46 starts, Armstrong earned 2023 Rookie of the Year honors despite running only 12 of 17 events for Chip Ganassi Racing, collecting five top 10s and finishing 20th in the standings. A full-time move with Ganassi in 2024 accelerated his growth, producing four top fives, eight top 10s and a 14th-place points result. His switch to Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian in 2025 continued that upward trend: two top fives, 11 top 10s and 28 laps led. The trajectory is clear, both Armstrong and the No. 66 Honda appear to be tracking toward a top-five championship finish.

Arni Sribhen: The keyword for both Meyer Shank Racing drivers in 2026 is “continuity.” Both drivers and their engineers return in their same roles, and with a renewed partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing, there is hope that the team can continue its development in the coming season. Both Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong finished amongst the top eight in the series standings, so growth will indicate that MSR is ready to take the step up from top of the midfield to regularly mixing it up with “Big Four” of the series entrants and compete for the title. Wins and NTT P1 Awards will go a long way to helping the team achieve the goal.
