“A coincidence on the timing,” Tony Kanaan said with a smile Oct. 1 as he pulled his new car in front of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Plaza Pavilion.

Kanaan took delivery of his blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Pace Car. After a few introductory donuts in the Bill Estes Chevrolet parking lot, he took it on his first road trip a few miles down the road to IMS, where he claimed the Indianapolis 500 in May.

“I came to Indy for the (road course) announcement but they told me the car was ready and I picked it up this morning. I almost didn’t come (to the press conference),” he said. “The guys had all the stickers to put on the car.  I said no way, let me take it and we'll bring it back later.”

Kanaan plans to have the car delivered to his home in Miami later during the offseason. But he’ll have reminders of his biggest win until next May.

“That's the beauty of now. I know the feeling of an Indy 500 winner,” he said. “It lasts for a long time, forever, and then you get to celebrate pretty much every month I have something new.  I can't wait for the ring to come and then the little Borg Warner, and it's just awesome.”
