Month of May Party Scene

So, you sat out Rev presented by Fifth Third Bank – the annual gala that kicks off month of May festivities at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That doesn’t mean you’ve missed your opportunity to hobnob with today’s top Indy car drivers and legends of yore.

And even if you were among the several thousand who enjoyed dining, dancing and mingling with drivers at Rev, you have more chances to do the same.

This month’s calendar is packed with events to celebrate the upcoming INDYCAR Grand Prix and the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil. Here are some of the highlight events going on around the city.

Join Vaughn, Chernoff and Grizzell – along with special guest racing legend Mario Andretti and a slew of current and former Indy car drivers – for steak, seafood and specialty beer and wine, as well as an opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind racing items or experiences during a live and a silent auction.

Guests enjoy a hearty Hoosier breakfast while taking in talks by executives from IMS and the 500 Festival and engaging in a rousing Q&A session hosted by famed broadcaster Bob Jenkins that features a “mystery” racing insider. (Past participants include Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Janet Guthrie and Lyn St. James.) The 500 Festival queen will also be crowned. Afterward, attendees can turn a lap around the speedway in their own vehicle (weather permitting), tour the garages and witness the first day of qualifying for this year’s Indianapolis 500.

During this event, which benefits Racing for Cancer – a charity founded by Andretti Autosport driver Ryan Hunter-Reay following the death of his mother from the disease – guests will enjoy brunch and unlimited karting on Speedway Indoor Karting’s road and oval tracks. Participants are asked to raise additional funds by garnering pledges of support for laps turned, with prizes given to both top fundraisers and fastest drivers.

This annual celebration – now in its 61st year and expected to draw some 300,000 spectators – also features marching bands, celebrities, costumed characters, military personnel and other VIPs, as well as a series of spectacular floats and soaring super-sized balloons.
