Performance Racing Industry

The Performance Racing Industry trade show is one of the most anticipated annual events in motorsports.

Groups and companies representing all areas and disciplines of racing gather at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis, for the event mostly reserved for industry professionals with registered credentials. However, INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway have a display this year in one of the common public areas that does not require a credential for admittance, which means that all activities at the INDYCAR/IMS display are available to fans as well.

Action at the INDYCAR/IMS display, located near the Georgia Street entrance to the convention center, begins today and runs through Saturday. The schedule of events at the display is as follows (all times ET):

Today, Dec. 8

  • 10 a.m., Pro Mazda 2018 chassis unveil: The Tatuus PM-18 chassis that will be used in the 2018 Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires season, the middle rung of the Mazda Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires developmental ladder, will be shown to the public for the first time.
  • 2 p.m., Indiana Racing Memorial Association honors Tony Elliott: Sprint car driver Tony Elliott, who died in a 2015 plane crash, will be honored with an IRMA road marker. Among those participating in the ceremony are Howdy Bell and Donald Davidson. The Winchester Speedway Barber Shop Quartet will also perform “(Back Home Again in) Indiana.”

Friday, Dec. 9

  • 12:20 p.m., Kyle Larson Q&A: NASCAR driver Kyle Larson will discuss his blossoming racing career.
  • 1:30 p.m., Doug Boles Q&A: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway president will review the ultra-successful 2016 season at the iconic track and look ahead to the 2017 calendar.
  • 2:15 p.m., Mazda Road to Indy Scholarship Shootout winner: MRTI held a competition this week among 18 promising young drivers from nine countries to determine the winner of a $200,000 scholarship to compete in the 2017 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda, the first rung on the MRTI ladder. The winner will be introduced here.
  • 3:30 p.m., INDYCAR tech talk: Bill Pappas, INDYCAR’s vice president of competition, engineering, will discuss the latest technology and technical direction of the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Saturday, Dec. 10

  • 10 a.m., Dakota Dickerson Q&A: The USF2000 driver for Newman Wachs Racing, which is returning to open-wheel racing competition, will be on hand to discuss his and the team’s aspirations.
  • 11:30 a.m., Donald Davidson Q&A: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian will discuss any and all topics related to the great racetrack facility.
  • 1 p.m., Juncos Racing driver announcement: Team officials will introduce their newest driver who will compete in the 2017 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires season.
  • 2 p.m., James Hinchcliffe “Mayor on Air” radio show: The popular Verizon IndyCar Series driver and “Dancing with the Stars” runner-up will host his live-to-tape, spontaneous, humorous and unpredictable podcast that also airs on Sirius Radio. Among the guests will be fellow driver and Hinchcliffe friend Conor Daly.
