Mark Jaynes

Anchor

The Monrovia, Indiana resident grew up calling “mock” Indy 500’s into a small cassette recorder. His life-long goal was achieved in 1996 when he joined the INDYCAR Radio Network while serving as News/Sports Director at WTHI AM/FM in Terre Haute, Indiana. His first stop in Terre Haute came in 1987 when he first met long-time INDYCAR Radio Network Anchor Mike King. The duo worked High School and College Games together and called races at the famed Terre Haute Action Track. In 2016, after spending time as an INDYCAR Radio Network pit reporter and backstretch/turn announcer, Mark moved to the booth as the chief anchor of INDYCAR Radio and the "Voice of the 500." He credits King, Bob Jenkins, the late Gary Lee and the late John Royer for their guidance early in his motorsports broadcasting career. Mark was awarded the 2018 Marv Bates Indiana Sportscaster of the Year by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sports Broadcasters Association, and was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sports Broadcasters Hall Of Fame in 2024. He is a Teacher Communications at Monrovia High School in his hometown of Monrovia and covers State Championships in a variety of sports for the IHSAA Champions Network. He resides in Plainfield, Indiana.
