Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Louis Foster continued his strong day at the new street circuit in Markham, Ontario, posting the fastest lap in Saturday’s second practice in preparation for the first Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.

Foster’s time around the 12-turn, 2.1-mile temporary course was 1 minute, 14.1793 seconds in the No. 45 Desnuda Organic Tequila Honda.

Foster will be aiming for his second career NTT INDYCAR SERIES pole when NTT P1 Award qualifying is held later today in its usual three-round, knockout format. That session begins at 6:30 p.m. ET, with live coverage beginning on FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls. FS2 will join the action at 7 p.m.

Foster’s first pole was earned last year as a series rookie at Road America.

Andretti Global’s Will Power had a setback midway through the session. His car drifted wide in Turn 10 and slammed the tire barrier, causing significant right-side damage.

“It was actually a very soft-feeling crash with a lot of damage, unfortunately,” Power said. “Yeah, my mistake.

“The car went wide through (Turn) 9 and got wide – I kept missing the turn there, and you get on the dust, which probably got dust on the tires – and then I was a bit shallow in (Turn) 10. I still wasn’t up to speed … wasn’t even going for a (fast) lap. Very unfortunate.”

The AJ Foyt Racing car of series rookie Caio Collet also suffered damage approaching Turn 10. Contact with the right-rear tire was against the outside wall.

A few other drivers went off course in the practice without damage. Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin had two such adventures, with Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward having one of his own.
