AJ Foyt Racing named Toby Sowery as its reserve driver for the remainder of the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
The 29-year-old British driver joins AJ Foyt Racing as the team focuses on driver development within INDYCAR and feeder series.
Sowery has a versatile background, with experience in the INDYCAR SERIES, INDY NXT by Firestone, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and international endurance racing. He helped CrowdStrike Racing by APR win the LMP2 class at this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona.
In 2024, Sowery made three NTT INDYCAR SERIES starts with Dale Coyne Racing, finishing 13th at Mid-Ohio on debut, 15th in Toronto and 17th in Portland. He won at Portland in 2019 with HMD Motorsports in INDY NXT. He finished third in points that season, with 35 series starts.
As reserve driver, Sowery will support the team via testing, simulator development and race operations, while maintaining race readiness.
“I’m really proud to be joining AJ Foyt Racing for 2026,” Sowery said. “When I first met Larry (Foyt) last year, it was clear we shared the same core values of integrity, accountability and doing things the right way.
“There’s a clear vision for where the team is going, and that’s something I wanted to be part of. The way A.J. (Foyt) approached his career with creativity, adaptability and always pushing forward is something I really respect. I’ll be ready when the opportunity comes.”
Sowery is expected to be in Southern California for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 17-19, the next NTT INDYCAR SERIES event. The 90-lap race airs at 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 19 on FOX, FOX One, the FOX Sports app, FOX Deportes and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls.
