2026 Preview: Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
1 HOUR AGO
Note: This continues a series of 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES team previews on INDYCAR.com. The season starts Sunday, March 1 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (noon ET, FOX, FOX One, FOX Deportes, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).
Starting Lineup: Graham Rahal (No. 15 Honda), Louis Foster (No. 45 Honda), Mick Schumacher (No. 47 Honda).
2025 in Review: Graham Rahal had a pair of memorable events, beginning with the Sonsio Grand Prix in May on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course where he again had a strong performance (qualified second, led 49 of the 85 laps, finished sixth). At Portland, he drove from the 22nd starting position to finish fourth, leading 10 laps. He reached the Firestone Fast Six qualifying round in Detroit, Road America and Toronto, and he finished 19th in the standings. The highlight of Foster’s rookie season was winning the NTT P1 Award at Road America, where he led three laps before finishing a season-best 11th. He also finished 11th in the IMS road course race after qualifying in the third position. His other Firestone Fast Six qualifying effort was at Mid-Ohio, where he started sixth. At year’s end, Foster ranked 23rd in points and was honored as the series Rookie of the Year. Devlin DeFrancesco was RLL’s third driver, and he finished 26th in the standings with a best finish of 11th in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, where he led the first 17 laps of his career in the event. His best qualifying effort was in the IMS road race when he started fifth. Schumacher spent the season in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
New for ’26: Schumacher has replaced DeFrancesco, and the entry shifts from No. 30 to No. 47. Behind the scenes, team president Jay Frye hired three highly regarded veterans: engineer Gavin Ward as special advisor, Brian Barnhart as senior vice president of operations and Kyle Sagan as pit stop manager. Barnhart will serve as Rahal’s strategist on race weekends.
Keep an Eye on This: It’s not even open for debate that the IMS road course has been RLL’s best track in recent years. The team has registered eight top-10 finishes and an 11th-place finish in the past five races. Former team driver Christian Lundgaard finished in the top four on four occasions, and Rahal (photo, bottom) has been in the top 10 in five consecutive races with a second-place finish among them. To say the team is due to win there is an understatement.
Little-Known Fact: Upon signing with RLL, Schumacher requested that his car carry No. 4 – his favorite number -- but AJ Foyt Racing had dibs given its recent history with it. Rookie Caio Collet will use it this season. Schumacher’s second choice was No. 7 in honor of the seven Formula One championships won by his father, Michael, but Arrow McLaren has it for Lundgaard. Schumacher’s third choice was to combine the numbers, which is how he settled on No. 47. Conor Daly was the last driver to use the number, doing so at Indy in 2021.
