Note: The Penske Entertainment editorial staff is looking back at the 10 biggest moments of 2025 in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in this year-end series, with one installment appearing on the site per day in countdown fashion from Dec. 22-31.
Scott Dixon broke the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ ironman record in 2025 and extended several other of his all-time marks while Josef Newgarden moved past three of the sport’s legends with his season-ending victory at Nashville Superspeedway.
Dixon’s start in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge at Indianapolis Motor Speedway gave him the career mark for series participation. Mario Andretti had held the mark for career races competed in (407 races), and the “500” was Dixon’s 408th. Dixon ended the season with 419 starts, the past 356 consecutively. The latter is a record Dixon already held.
Dixon’s July win at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course extended his record of seasons with at least one race victory to 23, and he now has wins in 21 consecutive seasons, another record. His career win total is now 59, eight shy of A.J. Foyt’s all-time mark.
Dixon also extended his record number of career top-three and top-five finishes to 145 and 217, respectively. With two second-place finishes, the Chip Ganassi Racing veteran moved closer to Andretti’s record 56; Dixon now has 53.
Newgarden was unable to win the “500” for a record third consecutive year, but his Nashville victory pushed his career total to 32, breaking a tie with Paul Tracy, Dario Franchitti and Helio Castroneves. The Team Penske driver now has sole possession of 10th place on the sport’s all-time list, and he will catch Al Unser Jr. for ninth place with two more wins.
Newgarden’s Nashville win extended his streak of consecutive winning seasons to 11, earning a tie for third place with Bobby Unser, Emerson Fittipaldi and Castroneves. Trailing Dixon’s 21 is Will Power with 16 from 2007-22.
Power’s win for Team Penske at Portland International Raceway gave him a race win in 18 seasons, tying Foyt for second place behind Dixon’s 23. Power’s career win total increased to 45, which still ranks fourth all-time. He needs seven wins to match Andretti’s 52.
Alex Palou’s eight wins for CGR in 2025 pushed his career total to 19, tying the totals of Jimmy Bryan, Jimmy Murphy and Sam Hornish Jr. Those eight wins were the fourth-most by a series champion in the sport’s history. Palou’s 12 career poles are tied with Parnelli Jones for 30th place.
Palou became the fourth driver to win three consecutive championships. Sebastien Bourdais holds the record with four from 2004-07. Ted Horn (1946-48) and Franchitti (2010-12) also won three in succession.
