INDYCAR's "Fast Six" is a report derived from all things found online about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We seek and find pics and quips as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence on Twitter, Instagram and more. Check back regularly when we post the latest.
MOLDING A WINNER
It’s safe to say that Takuma Sato, winner of the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500, approves of the mold of his likeness to be used for the Borg-Warner Trophy.
PUPPY LOVE
Verizon IndyCar Series drivers have only a couple of days at home this week before they head West for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, INDYCAR’s championship race. But that didn’t stop James Hinchcliffe and Charlie Kimball (and their canine best friends) from taking time to support Indianapolis Animal Care Services on Wednesday.
Kimball and his wife, Kathleen, and their two pups, Lila (a black Labrador Retriever) and Taj (a Husky), and Hinchcliffe and his girlfriend, Becky Dalton, and their Cockapoo, Lucy, all took a walk on the Sudsy Pups Dog Wash red carpet. A few feet away, dogs were being washed and getting their nails trimmed in exchange for donations to the charity.
We couldn’t resist these adorable Twitter posts.
HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE
Verizon IndyCar Series Champion Simon Pagenaud was moving a lot like the next INDYCAR driver contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” at the INDYCAR Grand Prix at the Glen. After spending a year with the Astor Cup, maybe he’s got the Mirrorball Trophy in mind.
RIDERS ON THE STORM
As Hurricane Irma heads for South Florida, we’re thinking about all our friends in her path.
BEHIND THE SCENES AT TEAM PENSKE
There’s always buzz about Helio Castroneves’ perfect hair. The Players’ Tribune went behind the scenes with Josef Newgarden at the INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen and learned something unexpected: it’s flexible!
HANGING THE WREATH
Races involving wreaths are apparently good luck for Alexander Rossi. The traditional orchid-covered wreath of the Indianapolis 500 was placed around him after he won the epic 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2016. Last weekend, when Rossi got his second Verizon IndyCar Series win in the INDYCAR Grand Prix at the Glen, he found himself following a laurel wreath tradition.
