Streets of St. Petersburg and Barber Motorsports Park

A pair of circuits which play host annually to Verizon IndyCar Series races are among the top-rated places to experience sports, according to the website Stadium Journey.

The website, which provides its readers with information so that they could make the most out of any trip to see a live sporting event, ranked the homes of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama alongside famed sporting venues as the University of Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse, the Baltimore Orioles’ Camden Yards and Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

The St. Petersburg street course, which will host the Verizon IndyCar Series’ season-opening event for seventh straight season in March, checked in at No. 2 on the list, while Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, site of April’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, was rated 10th.

The staff of Stadium Journey noted the walkability of the St. Pete course, which is centered around the downtown waterfront while providing up-close racing views for fans lining the main straightaway at Albert Whitted Airport.

The website called Barber Motorsports Park – known as the Augusta National of motorsports – “one of the hidden gems of the racing world. A premiere (sic) racetrack that rivals any others in the country. Who would have known that a track in the middle of the Deep South not called Talladega would provide fans with one of the best racing experiences in the world of sports?”
