Helio Castroneves

INDYCAR’s “Fast Six” is a report derived from all things found online about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We seek and find pics and quips as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence into tweets, Instagrams and more. Check back regularly when we post the latest.

SAFETY FIRST, KIWI STYLE

When Air New Zealand set out to make an entertaining flight safety video, they scored four-time Verizon IndyCar Series champ Scott Dixon and his fun-loving wife, Emma, for cameos. Dixon claims he’s not an actor, but we think he looks natural trying to determine how fast a touring vessel will cut through the ocean’s waves.

LOVE FROM LA LA LAND

Nine years after Helio Castroneves won Season 5 of “Dancing with the Stars,” the Los Angeles media still loves him. That was apparent a few weeks ago, when he visited DWTS to cheer on James Hinchcliffe and visited his pal, “Young Hollywood” reporter Lesley Robins. The show tweeted its video of their sofa chat this week.

CHARLIE KIMBALL: PROUD HOOSIER

Everybody knows that Charlie Kimball grew up in California (heck, his parents own an avocado farm), so he is a transplant living in Indianapolis. But what everybody doesn’t know is how much Kimball loves all things to do with the Racing Capital of the World. Kimball lives downtown, counts Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (a Stanford alum) among his friends and enjoys the city’s culture so much he made a list of favorites for Visit Indy. He is on trend, too, because Indianapolis was just named one of the 50 best places to travel in the world in 2017 by Travel + Leisure.

Here’s Kimball’s list of places to go and things to see inside and outside of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway:

POP QUIZ!

2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi, who grew up racing in Europe, also lives in Indianapolis. That’s good because it’s the best place to learn about the history and tradition of the Verizon IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Watching this video, we see that Rossi has some studying to do.

A TANGLED WEB

James Hinchcliffe turned 30 on Dec. 5. But his birthday celebration continued through the weekend at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis where he recorded his latest “Mayor on Air” Sirius/XM Radio podcast. Seems the show’s producer, INDYCAR’s Brian Simpson, who Hinch likes to refer to as “Buzzkill,” passed out cans of Silly String to audience members, instructing them to spray on cue. They did.

The prank was payback for a cake in the face “Buzzkill” received on his birthday from Hinchtown, so this entertaining war is just getting started.

DALY DRINK

The Foyt Wine Vault in Speedway, Ind., is celebrating AJ Foyt Racing’s new driver, Conor Daly, with “Daly” specials and tweeting about it. Cheers!
