Spencer Pigot, Gabby Chaves and Juan Piedrahita are among the biggest soccer fans in the INDYCAR paddock.

But they got a whole new take on their favorite sport as part of the halftime entertainment for the Indy Eleven’s 1-0 win over the Ottawa Fury at Michael Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday.

The two Verizon IndyCar Series drivers and the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires competitor teamed with friends to play in a five-on-five “bubble soccer” game.

Pigot tallied a goal as he led his team to victory in a game against a team of Indy Eleven fans and members of Indy Pride and Indy Fringe, the game's honored organizations.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Pigot, the Ed Carpenter Racing driver who was attending his first Indy Eleven game. “I’ve never done that before. It was fun to come out and play with Gabby and score some goals. I’m looking forward to coming back to more games.”

Chaves, Pigot and Piedrahita play in an indoor soccer league when they can during the season, though most of their skills couldn’t compare to the bubble game, which saw each player don an air-filled bubble over their head and torso.

“It was quite a unique experience playing bubble soccer,” Chaves said. “I had a good time teaming up with a lot of the guys here and sharing the pitch with the Indy Eleven.”
