FONTANA, Calif. – Four arms rise simultaneously in a subjective response to “Who will give Chip Ganassi Racing Teams its 100th Indy car victory?”

Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Sage Karam and Charlie Kimball all could be correct, and the team owner would be pleased by any of the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers delivering the milestone.

Dixon claimed the 99th team victory in the Firestone 600 three weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway, and the MAVTV 500 on June 27 (1 p.m. Pacific on NBCSN) is the next opportunity to hit 100. Ganassi entered Indy car racing in 1990, and Michael Andretti recorded the initial victory on March 20, 1994, in the Australian FAI IndyCar Grand Prix in Surfers Paradise.

Kanaan won the 250-lap race on the 2-mile, D-shaped oval last August, leading 64 laps and averaging a blistering 196.111 mpg. Dixon finished 3.6 seconds behind in second.

“It would be fantastic to get the 100th Indy car win,” said Dixon, a two-time winner this season. “Hopefully it comes this year from one of the four, which would be fantastic. It’s fantastic for Chip, obviously, what he's accomplished in a pretty short term.

“I would love to bring that 100th. But there's three other guys on the team that will be trying to do the same thing.”

Kimball qualified sixth and finished 12th in the 500-miler under the lights last year, while Karam competes in the race for the first time. He clinched the 2013 Indy Lights championship at the track.

Chip Ganassi Racing, with wins by Jimmy Vasser in 1998 and Kanaan, is the only current Verizon IndyCar Series team with more than one victory at Auto Club Speedway.

Dixon also will be seeking a career California sweep. He won at Long Beach in April and won the 2014 race at Sonoma Raceway.

“You always want to win, no matter what track it is,” he said. “It's rewarding definitely the first time you maybe get to have a shot at winning. 

Fontana, we've had mixed results. Last year we were very dominant I think with both cars. T.K. did a phenomenal job capturing the win late in the race. I think we've done well on ovals so far this year.

“We'll have to see how it goes for Fontana this weekend, but typically a track I think the team does quite well at. Hopefully we can continue that trend.”
