Ed Carpenter

Justin Miller's mitt was a clear target for Ed Carpenter, who delivered the ceremonial first pitch April 24 during Chrevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Day at Comerica Park in Detroit.

The Verizon IndyCar Series team owner/driver also swapped an autographed Indianapolis 500 pole-winning T-shirt with pitcher Rick Porcello for a Tigers jersey with his name on the back above the number 20. Carpenter also was interviewed on the Tigers' pre-game TV and radio shows after a full media tour earlier in the day.

"It was a really fun day in Detroit promoting the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans," he said. "It is always fun to come to Detroit and visit our friends from Chevy.  Today was especially fun since I was able to throw out the first pitch. I wish I could say I threw a strike, but the major league got the better of me today. Either way, what a cool opportunity and a great way to promote the race."

The Verizon IndyCar Series doubleheader race weekend is May 31 and June 1 on the Belle Isle course. GET TICKETS
