Notes: Hinchcliffe's beard gets two-week reprieve
APR 26, 2012
SÃO PAULO, Brazil – About that shave, Mr. Hinchcliffe.
It seems the “Mayor of Hinchtown” will keep his facial hair for a couple more weeks, citing a condition in the bet with Wade Cunningham that they would go under the razor together following the first podium finish for the driver of the No. 27 GoDaddy.com car.
Hinchcliffe accomplished that feat at Long Beach on April 15, and arrived at the Anhembi circuit for the third Itaipava São Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle bristling at the questions about his bristles.
“Wade and I have had conflicting schedules,” Hinchcliffe laughed.
So the new date is just before Opening Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – May 12 – which will shave off the days that the three Andretti Autosport drivers (Ryan Hunter-Reay has joined Marco Andretti) have beards in common.
“I think at least once in every man’s life he should get a straight-edge razor shave from a professional barber,” Hinchcliffe added. “I’ll show up on Opening Day a baby-faced Hinch.”

"I hope the fans embrace this great opportunity for a unique experience both on the buses and at the track. I absolutely love racing at Milwaukee, it is one of Americas greatest racetracks, and the fans will not be disappointed one bit."

Vancouver-based Coastal Contacts Inc. will be the primary sponsor of the No. 77 Coastal.com/Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports car driven by Simon Pagenaud this weekend. Coastal Contacts Inc. is the global leader in online direct-to-consumer retail of eyeglasses and optical products.
New tire specs, used already: The Firestone primary and alternate tire specifications are new for Brazil, but both specs have already seen race action this year at St. Petersburg and Long Beach. The specs feature updated tread compounds applied to the same Firehawk street course tire construction used throughout 2011.
The Firestone rain tire for this weekend is the same rain spec used in the last half of 2011.
Of note: IZOD Indy Car Series driver Katherine Legge has joined The Skin Cancer Foundation's Team SCF campaign, an effort to promote sun-safe behaviors among active people. May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. … A.J. Foyt will miss the Sao Paulo event: "I'm still not 100 percent (staph infection following knee in January surgery) and I felt with Indy coming up I didn't want to put myself through that long trip to Brazil," Foyt said.
