It was going to happen, and it happened in 2008 a half a world away, as Danica Patrick became the first woman to win in the INDYCAR SERIES with a late pass on Helio Castroneves.

As INDYCAR celebrates Women's History Month in March, it is our great pleasure to revisit some of the great moments of the sport. This week's Classic Rewind takes us to Motegi, Japan and the Twin Ring Motegi oval for the 2008 Indy Japan 300.

In 2005, one name dominated the motorsports world ... Danica. She set the world on fire with her bravery and aggressiveness in her racecraft, and the 2005 Indy 500 was almost hers. She was always sure a woman could win a major open-wheel race. It was bound to happen. It was going to happen. On April 20, 2008, she made it happen. She finally arrived to the place she had dreamed of for so long -- Victory Lane, becoming the first female winner in INDYCAR SERIES history, capturing the Indy Japan 300 in her 50th career start.

For this week's Classic Rewind, we go back to that historic race weekend.
