The 2000 racing season brought us a plethora of 'firsts', but none more prevalent than the first win for a rising star from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Cristiano da Matta. Driving for PPI Motorsports, da Matta held off a charging Michael Andretti on the tight, one-mile oval for his first career CART victory. Little did we know at the time we were witnessing the start of a meteoric rise for the eventual 2002 CART Champion.
