Scott Dixon

LEXINGTON, Ohio – The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course isn’t Scott Dixon’s home track, but the Chip Ganassi Racing driver sure drives like it is.

Dixon, who has a track-record five NTT IndyCar Series race wins at this permanent road course, led Friday’s first practice for the Honda Indy 200. His best lap in the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda was 1 minute, 6.0973 seconds.

Second was Spencer Pigot, driver of the No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet. His time was 1:06.2455. Third was Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, driver of the No. 22 Menards Chevrolet (1:06.2665).

FIRST PRACTICE RESULTS

Series points leader Josef Newgarden was fourth in the No. 2 PPG Chevrolet. Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, who is second in the standings (29 points out of the lead), was 13th of 23 drivers. Rossi won last year’s race here.

RC Enerson is making his season debut in the No. 31 Lucas Oil School Chevrolet of Carlin. He was 21st in the opening session.

Today’s second practice begins at 2:30 p.m. on the NBC Sports Gold app.

Saturday’s action includes the weekend’s third practice at 10:30 a.m. and NTT P1 Award qualifying at 2:35 p.m. Qualifying is on NBCSN and the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network.

Sunday’s Honda Indy 200, a 90-lap race, is at 4 p.m. on NBC, the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network and SiriusXM Channel 209. This will be race No. 13 in a 17-race season.
