Blackstock moves to Star Mazda

As part of the 2013 Andretti Autosport car livery unveil Dec. 5, the team also announced that 22-year-old Shelby Blackstock will graduate to its Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear team for the upcoming season.

Blackstock, son of country superstar Reba McEntire, was one of two full-time drivers in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda for Andretti, rising to a top-ten finish in the championship in his rookie season. The former Skip Barber standout finished eighth in the standings after six top-ten finishes, including fourth place at Road America and fifth at Mid-Ohio.

The Nashville, Tenn., native finished the 2011 Skip Barber National Series in fifth place in championship with two podium finishes. He also competed in the Formula Ford 1600 series and GRAND-AM series in 2011.

"I am very excited for this next season in Star Mazda with Andretti Autosport," Blackstock said. "After a rough USF2000 season, I hope to open next season on a good note and stay consistent. At the open test in Indianapolis, I adapted to the Star Mazda very quickly and showed some speed. With off season testing and guidance from the Andretti Autosport team, I hope I can go find success in St. Petersburg."
