With one exception, the aerodynamic specifications for the MAV TV 500 INDYCAR World Championships at Auto Club Speedway on Sept. 15 will be the same as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May for the Indianapolis 500.

Differentiating the aero specs for the 250-lap race on the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway and the 200-lap race on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval is the elimination of a rear wing wicker. A technical bulletin was sent to inform teams of the addition to Rule 14.6.1.4.

According to Rule 14.6.4.12 in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series rulebook, use of the Speedway rear-wheel guards, the Speedway rear-wing mainplane and the Speedway rear-wing mainplane end caps are mandatory.

The rear-wheel guards developed by Dallara for the two events are taller, lighter and have a slightly different shape than the sets used on the road/street circuits and other oval races. The rear-wheel guards/wings work in combination with the other bodywork to create less drag and more downforce.

Optional parts include underwing side walls, rear-wheel infils, sidepod top deck and radiator inlet shutters.

Eight IZOD IndyCar Series drivers, including championship contenders Will Power of Team Penske and Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosport, tested on the Auto Club Speedway oval Sept. 6 in the Speedway aero configuration.

Twenty-two of the 26 entrants for the season finale in Fontana, Calif., are scheduled to test Sept. 12.
