Firestone Indy Lights powerhouse enters GRAND-Am event at Brickyard
JUL 26, 2012
It may be the first time that the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series has raced on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, but several drivers in the field will recognize the venue.
Firestone Indy Lights drivers Sebastian Saavedra and James Davison have been announced as the drivers of the No. 46 Corvette of team Michael Baughman Racing for the Super Weekend event on Friday, July 27.
Davison finished second in the 2009 Firestone Indy Lights championship behind current IZOD IndyCar Series driver JR Hildebrand. That same season Saavedra won Rookie of the Year honors after finishing third, and the two became acquainted on the track.
“I am excited to partner Sebastian in the No. 46 Corvette,” Davison said. “We battled for the Indy Lights championship together in 2009 and have become good friends ever since.
“We have some exciting challenges having not driven the car before and the use of a H-pattern gearbox, however we will be pushing to maximize a result for Mike Baughman Racing.”
Saavedra, who returned to Firestone Indy Lights for 2012 after spending 2011 in the IZOD IndyCar Series, currently sits second in the point standings with one win and six podium finishes in the first nine races of the Firestone Indy Lights season.
The race will be broadcast on SPEED at 4 p.m. ET.
