Scott Dixon

As he turns full focus toward clinching a fifth Verizon IndyCar Series championship this weekend at Sonoma Raceway, Scott Dixon has yet another milestone achievement on the horizon.

“BORN RACER,” the feature-length documentary on the Indy car great still in the prime of his racing career, is set for release on Oct. 2. Dixon unveiled the film’s full trailer on Thursday. Watch it here with an introduction from Dixon, whose 44 Indy car race wins rank third most all time.

"BORN RACER” is a co-production from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and GPC Films. The crew trailed Dixon throughout the 2017 season, attending Verizon IndyCar Series races including the 102nd Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil, as well as Dixon’s drive with Chip Ganassi Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans sports car race. Directed by Bryn Evans and produced by Matthew Metcalfe and Fraser Brown, the documentary features racing and behind-the-scenes footage as well as portions of Dixon’s family life.

In a statement, United Pictures Home Entertainment said “BORN RACER” was “filmed with an access all-areas lens” and “follows the people who are passionate about the world of auto racing and asks why some individuals feel compelled to face danger and risk their lives in order to win.

“Both action-packed and highly intimate, it features an intense blend of up-close and personal filming with never-before-seen spectacular, cutting-edge racing footage to explore a sport that defines the very people who inhabit it, and pushes them to the edge in their desire for success.”

Friends and fellow drivers Tony Kanaan and Dario Franchitti are among those appearing in the documentary, along with team owner Chip Ganassi and Dixon’s wife, Emma. The film will have a private premiere screening in Indianapolis on Sept. 24 for members of the INDYCAR community. It will be available on DVD and for digital download in the United States on Oct. 2.
