July 19 is an off day for Verizon IndyCar Series drivers, and in honor of National Ice Cream Day they’ll make it a point to partake.

Several chains will be doling out free scoops and giveaways.

A sampling of favorites:

Graham Rahal – “A chocolate M&M milkshake at Steak ‘n Shake. And if I weren’t having a chocolate M&M Steak ‘n Shake milkshake, Graeter’s ice cream in Columbus, Ohio, a ‘Buckeye Blitz.’ A little chocolate and peanut butter.”

Justin Wilson – “I’d really like a 99, which is an English treat. It’s a cone with soft serve ice cream, usually vanilla, into which a Flake (chocolate) bar has been inserted. Normally, for me, it’s chocolate with chocolate bits and nuts.”

Tristan Vautier – “For me it’s a cone with about five scoops. Always vanilla and add pistachio, caramel, coconut and coffee.”

Sage Karam – I went to Culver’s last night and had a banana split. Maybe (July 19) I’ll go to Cold Stone (Creamery) and maybe have a chocolate fudge. I like chocolate.”

Ryan Hunter-Reay -- “I really like cookies and cream, I always have. I’m a sucker for Oreos. I’ll have to take the kids (for ice cream).”

Ryan Briscoe -- “Chocolate chip, that’s my go-to. Might throw some sprinkles on top … in a waffle cone.”

Sebastien Bourdais – “I like the waffle cones and I really like mint chocolate chip.”
