Gabby Chaves

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Gabby Chaves' streak of finishing higher than his starting position continued in the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Verizon IndyCar Series rookie advanced 10 positions relative to his qualifying spot of 20th in the No. 98 Bowers & Wilkins/Curb Honda in the 248-lap race on the 1.455-mile oval to earn his second consecutive top-10 finish.

Chaves, the 2014 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires champion, finished ninth in the Race 2 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans on May 31.

“We constantly improved the car throughout the race and made our way through the field pretty well," Chaves said. "We had a couple of slower stops, but all my crew and everyone on the team did a fantastic job to improve the car and give me a car I was comfortable racing with. Two top 10s in a row is really good progress, and we’re just looking forward to continuing to improve on this momentum going onto the next few races.”

In the nine races, Chaves has moved up a total of 44 positions over his starting place on the grid.

Ryan Briscoe, filling in for the injured James Hinchcliffe in the No. 5 Arrow/Lucas Oil Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda for the second oval race in a row, topped the 23-car field by advancing 11 positions to finish eighth.

"It was a really good effort," said Briscoe, who will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next week for Corvette Racing. "I was pleased to be able to move our way through the field and it was a lot of fun. I had a really good car and I'm really proud of the effort by the whole Arrow Electronics team, their pit stops are impressive. We were constantly talking throughout the race to make improvements on the balance and we had to work with it a lot but I was really happy."

Conor Daly will drive the No. 5 entry in the Honda Indy Toronto on June 12-14.
