Blond Brazil bombshell: '500' champ's new look
MAY 30, 2013
DETROIT -- Do blonds have more fun?
Indianapolis 500 Mile Race champion Tony Kanaan certainly is on Day 3 of his Victory Tour. Kanaan arrived from media appearances in New York for a luncheon in advance of this weekend's Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans with a different hair color.
It wasn't personal preference but an agreement he made with longtime friend Rubens Barrichello. If Kanaan won the 500 Mile Race, Barrichello would have to shave his head.
"He fired back, 'I'll do it but you have to dye your hair blond,' '' Kanaan said. "I thought I was getting the best part of it because I always shave my head, so I said yes. He'll be bald for another 40 years and I'll be blond for two days."
Kanaan said he'll likely retain the look for the doubleheader race weekend but shave his head for his appearance June 3 on "The Late Show with David Letterman."
Following the Victory Awards Celebration on May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kanaan was whisked to Fort Worth, Texas, as he was honored at a luncheon hosted by Texas Motor Speedway. He was in New York the next morning for a round of interviews, including Esquire, The New York Times, Men’s Health, CNBC , CNNi-World Sport and ABC News Now.
Kanaan has experienced the good and bad at Belle Isle. He won the IZOD IndyCar Series race in 2007. In 2000, he suffered a broken arm in qualifying at Belle Isle and missed four races.
