LONG POND, Pennsylvania – Will Power continued building on his Indy car legacy in qualifying on Saturday for the ABC Supply 500, collecting the 53rd pole position of his career to tie the great A.J. Foyt for second all time.

Power, the 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner, ran two qualifying laps around Pocono Raceway at a sizzling speed of 219.511 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet to set the pace in the 22-car field. The winner of the last two Verizon IndyCar Series races at Pocono, Power earned his first pole at the track and 11th on an oval.

He will lead the field to the green flag in Sunday’s 200-lap race on the 2.5-mile triangular oval. Power is seeking to become the first Indy car driver to win three consecutive 500-mile races in 40 years, since Al Unser claimed the 1978 Triple Crown with victories at Indianapolis, Pocono and Ontario.

Josef Newgarden qualified second in the No. 1 Hitachi Chevrolet (218.802) to lock up the front row for Team Penske.

Andretti Autosport teammates Alexander Rossi (218.758) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (217.806) qualified third and fourth, respectively. It placed the four closest competitors to championship leader Scott Dixon in the first two rows for the race, while Dixon qualified 13th in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda (216.410).

Dixon leads Rossi by 46 points, Newgarden by 60, Power by 86 and Hunter-Reay by 95 heading into Sunday’s race, the 14th of 17 on this year’s Verizon IndyCar Series schedule.

A final 60-minute practice is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. ET Saturday and streams live on RaceControl.IndyCar.com, youtube.com/indycar and the INDYCAR Mobile app.
