A Verizon IndyCar Series race car versus a MotoGP motorcycle – who you got?

The two will face off in an exhibition lap at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with Marco Andretti driving his Andretti Autosport car and Dani Pedrosa riding the Repsol Honda he’ll use at this weekend’s Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

The exhibition is being staged to help bring attention to the race weekend but will also showcase the technological marvels on one track at the same time.'

Andretti’s Honda-powered Indy car has a turbocharged 2.2-liter V6 engine, making 700 horsepower and a top speed of 230 mph. It weighs roughly 1,575 pounds.

Pedrosa’s Repsol Honda motorcycle has a 1000cc V4 engine, making more than 240 horsepower and a top speed of 217 mph. It weighs roughly 350 pounds.

Which will have the home-course advantage? Tough to say. Pedrosa will be on the same reconfigured 16-turn, 2.591-mile road course that he rode last year and will ride again this weekend.

Andretti has driven the 2.5-mile IMS oval for a decade in the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race and has two years’ experience on the Angie’s List Grand Prix road course, which has a slightly different configuration with 14 turns and a clockwise racing direction. But the MotoGP course (which runs counterclockwise) will likely feel a bit different.

Nicky Hayden, the 2006 MotoGP World Champion from Owensboro, Ky., will be on hand to throw the green flag.
