Emerson Newton-John talks Pink and Blue for Two

Hello to all the INDYCAR and Firestone Indy Lights fans across the globe! I hope this latest blog finds you all well.

It’s been three months now since my return to racing after 10 years from the sport. In that time, I have grown to appreciate the sport that I love even more, and have become more determined than ever to make sure that I find my way to a full-time ride for 2013.

My team, Fan Force United, and I just came off of an uber-sucsessful test last week at the fast and fun Putnam Park race track in Indiana, where we tried various set-ups for Labor Day Weekend’s race in the streets of downtown Baltimore. I am really looking forward to getting back in the car for my second race of the year, and especially for the fact that it is on a street course. I watched last year’s race, and it looked like a fantastic venue. With the track improvements that have been made, it seems as if there will be more passing opportunities and overall better racing.

This weekend is going to be a big one for me. Not only because I have secured the sponsorship to race again this season, but because of what I will be taking to the track to share with all of the fans, media and motorsports fraternity. On Friday practice session 1, I will roll out of pit lane with a half pink and half blue car. Why, you might ask?  Well, I will be introducing my cancer awareness charity called “Pink and Blue for Two” to the world of motorsport.

Pink and Blue for Two (PB42) is a unique and powerful cancer awareness campaign that links the strikingly similar statistics between breast and prostate cancers, while urging couples to remind one another to visit their doctors regularly for screenings. What makes our campaign so different to all others is multi-faceted. Firstly, we emphasize the importance of early detection of BOTH breast and prostate cancers equally. While it is fabulous that breast cancer awareness is at the forefront of people’s minds in recent years, prostate cancer awareness needs to be as well. Men are just as affected by the perils of prostate cancer, as woman are from breast cancer. Both should be equally addressed to the public.

The second unique aspect of PB42, is how it brings all walks of life together, in the fight against cancer. Male and female, all ethnicity, and anyone over the age of 25, can and should be involved with this campaign. Last but not least, is how PB42 urges couples to remind one another to visit their doctors regularly for screenings of both types of cancers. When a person has their significant other helping to remind them to have it done, it makes it the entire experience that much easier and more pleasant. Let’s face it, us men don’t have a desire to get a prostate exam performed, and we will most likely skip it if we can get away with it. But, if our wives and/or girlfriends are there to remind us to book the appointment (and to make us actually go!), chances are we will. Bottom line…Pink and Blue for Two unites people everywhere in the pursuit of global breast and prostate cancer awareness, and to spread the work together in the importance of early detection.

So , now that you know what PB42 is all about, we hope to see you at the track in Baltimore this weekend to show your support of this powerful campaign, and to get your significant other involved with you!!

Warmest regards,
