Currently a junior attending Connections Academy High School, focusing his academics studies on the STEM program. Jacob has been winning races and championships since the age of five.

Jacob began his racing career in the North Texas area. He won many local and regional karting races in route to being noticed by factory teams. While racing in the junior shifter class, Jacob was invited to become a factory driver for the dominant Intrepid Factory Team. The team was able to showcase his talents allowing him to win races nationally in the SKUSA Pro Kart series including wins at the prestigious Supernats race in Las Vegas. In 2015, at the age of fifteen, Jacob made the switch from karts to cars, beginning his professional racing career.

Jacob spent the 2015 racing season testing in a Formula Mazda and after getting his SCCA license he competed in his first open-wheel car race in December. The first race weekend could not have gone better, as Jacob was able to put his Formula Mazda car on pole and breaking a long standing track record in route to taking home two race wins.

Jacob’s first full season of formula car racing proved to be a very positive one. He was able to win eight races, break two more track records, and put his Formula Mazda on pole as well as setting a new track record at the prestigious SCCA National Runoffs at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Jacob was able to cap off the season by being named one of four finalist for the World Speed Rising Star Award.

Jacob recently showed his versatility, driving a Porsche Boxster sports car in the WRL endurance race at the Circuit of Americas. Starting in the back of the 82 car field Jacob was able pass his way up to fifth by the time his two hour stint was finished and in the process setting the forth fasted lap of the race.

Off the track, Jacob works as a driver coach and mechanic for drivers at local karting tracks as well as the local race car tracks. Jacob spent each day of his summer months working for Texas Autosports at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas wrenching, testing, assisting and coaching test drives, as well as building Formula Mazda race cars under the guidance and supervision of top notch mechanics and car builders giving Jacob knowledge and exposure to many aspects of racing.

In June 2017, Jacob made his Cooper Tires USF2000 presented by Mazda debut with Team Pelfrey at Road America.

JDL Racing, an open-wheel Texas-based development team, will make its debut on the May 10 – 11 Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires grid at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway with its driver Jacob Loomis.

“Although we are in our infancy, we are hoping to hit the ground running and be recognized as a competitive top-level open-wheel racing team on and off the track. We aim to build our Indy Pro 2000 team based upon our strong foundation,” stated JDL Racing team principal Jim Loomis. The team is very pleased to be reunited with Moses Smith.

19-year-old Jacob Loomis will begin a new chapter in his racing career behind the wheel of the #9 Optima Anesthesia-powered Indy Pro 2000 entry. Loomis is excited to compete at the Speedway this week.

“This represents a major step forward in my career and toward my dream of winning an Indy 500," said Loomis. "We are eager to put our small-town team’s effort to the test and are ready to show that a lofty budget and a lavish team aren’t always necessary to take that next step in climbing the Road to Indy ladder. I love racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, enjoying success at the F4 level, and am hopeful to continue the streak."

Loomis enters the newly-branded Indy Pro 2000 Championship as a two-year highly competitive driver in the FIA F4 US Championship series earning several podium finishes in addition to dominating 2016 in the SCCA’s Formula Mazda series with multiple poles, victories and track records. While chasing his dream on the second step of the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires, an official development series of INDYCAR, Loomis juggles multiple demands as an aviator and a full-time college student studying Aviation Technology. Loomis, while not on the track or flying, dedicates a great deal of time working as a driver coach, performing data acquisition and mechanic duties for drivers/racers in a variety of cars as well as karts.
