Everything went right for INDYCAR in St. Louis last week. A great race, a great crowd and some great signs for the future as well.

For my #INDYCAR Fantasy Challenge driven by Firestone picks, well, that Lap 1 incident made Will Power less of a solid pick than he should have been, but that’s racing. Of course, that means that a shift back to the road course, this time at historic Watkins Glen International, and a chance to make up some points this weekend in the INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen.

It doesn’t mean, however, that I’m selling on Will Power (priced at $25 this week). He’s not out of the title chase just yet and, just like me, he’s got to make up points. Power and the rest of the Team Penske drivers have been solid all year when something external doesn’t go wrong. Power has been good on road courses and should have more to show for it aside from bad luck. I’m liking the couple dollars extra we get from Power this week as well.

Those dollars went to series leader Josef Newgarden ($33), so I'm spending them quickly. Two Penskes gives more chances of winning and, though I’ll take a bit of a hit on the back end of my lineup this week, I can’t ignore the simple dominance. Taking Newgarden at a higher value over Scott Dixon and even the other Penske drivers should be rewarded. Newgarden has looked absolutely dominant and, while some might not like his move on teammate Simon Pagenaud to win at Gateway Motorsports Park last weekend, if you picked him, you loved the pass to win.

Andretti Autosport has been driving well, but Marco Andretti ($18) hasn’t been able to keep up. He’s been staying out of the bad luck and putting up some points. Yes, the solid team should be giving him more of a chance to win than he’s shown, but spending at the top means wish casting a little bit here at the bottom of the salary pool. Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay are better picks, but they’re out of reach this week unless we sacrifice a Penske driver. I don’t think that’s the right move.

I close my team for this week with Conor Daly. The Indiana native has been impressing with his consistency and finally got a solid result for AJ Foyt Racing at Gateway. Daly’s looking to impress his owners as drivers start their shuffle for 2018 rides. Daly was thought to be a road course ringer when he came to INDYCAR from the Euro formula circuits. He hasn’t quite lived up to that yet, but he can continue pushing and, at $17, he’s the best available.

Watkins Glen is one of those classic courses and classic names in all of motorsports. We’ll have another Verizon IndyCar Series winner there this weekend that can be put alongside the likes of Formula 1 winners James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Jimmy Clark and Graham Hill – all legends of speed.

Let’s see if my team of Power, Newgarden, Andretti and Daly can live up to that legendary status this weekend. Good luck with your picks.
