Graham Rahal

NEWTON, Iowa – “How do you stay cool while driving?”

Graham Rahal might not be accustomed to being asked a question like that by a member of the media, but the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver was eager to answer questions to a dedicated small group of children and their parents today before the Iowa Corn 300 at Iowa Speedway.

Track officials scheduled Rahal to meet the youngsters this morning at the media center, but the heavy rains that soaked the area put the event on a delay. As the rain began to subside, the meeting was moved to the RLL transporter in the garage area for the devoted few who stuck around.

The kids and their parents were not disappointed. Rahal shared his journey to the Verizon IndyCar Series and thoroughly explained how drivers stay cool during a race when a young girl asked. He brought out his race helmet to show the group how he’s able to take a drink during the race.

Following the Q&A session, the guests were given the additional treat of being taken inside the team’s garage to watch Rahal’s crew make final preparations for the 300-lap race. The children were jolted to attention when the crew fired up the engine of the No. 15 Mi-Jack/RLL Honda so they could hear how loud an Indy car sounds up close.

Rahal will start today’s race from the outside of Row 6. Coverage begins at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN and the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network.
