Four-time and reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon will join the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver lineup for the Petit Le Mans on Oct. 3 at Road Atlanta.
Dixon, who claimed his most recent championship Aug. 30 in the No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, will co-drive the No. 01 Prototype with Scott Pruett and Joey Hand in the 10-hour TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race. Dixon also co-drove a Prototype to victory this year in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and co-drove at Sebring International Raceway.
“The No. 01 has had some very strong runs recently so I’m hoping I can go out and help them compete for another win," Dixon said.
Sebastien Bourdais, a four-time Indy car champion and two-time race winner this past season, will co-drive an Action Express Racing Prototype in the endurance race. Jack Hawksworth, who completed his first season with AJ Foyt Racing, will join Indianapolis 500 veteran Bruno Junqueira in competing for RSR Racing in the Prototype Challenge class.
Ryan Briscoe, who competed in eight Verizon IndyCar Series races this past season for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, will co-drive a GT Le Mans entry for Corvette Racing. NBCSN Verizon IndyCar Series analyst and Indy 500 veteran Townsend Bell will co-drive a Scuderia Corsa entry in the GT Daytona class.
Holmatro Safety Team members to instruct first responders
Members of INDYCAR's Holmatro Safety Team will apply their expertise attending to racetrack incidents to everyday situations when they train first responders in two cities in coming weeks.
Dr. Michael Olinger, INDYCAR's director of medical services and a member of the Holmatro Safety Team, will discuss medical trauma response with first responders in Brentwood, Tenn., and Dr. Andrew Stevens, a Holmatro Safety Team physician, will discuss the same subject to first responders in St. Louis.
In addition, Holmatro Safety Team members will provide instruction in both cities on extrication techniques from newer vehicles whose safety features can sometimes make extrication hazardous for first responders.
The Holmatro Safety Team consists of physicians, nurses, paramedics and firefighter/EMTs who attend every INDYCAR event.
'Indianapolis' gets screening at film festival
The short film "Indianapolis" will be screened Sept. 26 at the Jalopnik Film Festival in Los Angeles.
The stop-motion film, created by INDYCAR photographer Shawn Gritzmacher from about 3,000 still photos taken over the Month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, chronicles the 2015 Indianapolis 500 and highlights how current Verizon IndyCar Series drivers carry on the traditions and history of the "500."
Films for the third-year event were screened and selected by Jeff Zwart, Spike Feresten, Los Angeles Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson and comedian/producer Adam Carolla, whose documentary titled "Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman" will also be featured at the festival.
Special race school experience with Hunter-Reay, Hinchcliffe
Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe will serve as guest instructors for an exclusive racing school experience Dec. 7-9 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, with proceeds benefiting Racing For Cancer.
The event consists of two full days of on-track activity, including hot laps in Porsche 911s, and instruction from Hunter-Reay and Hinchcliffe as well as the Skip Barber Racing School instructors. Hunter-Reay and Hinchcliffe will host a welcome cocktail reception and exclusive private dinners with the participants and their guests.
