BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Neil Alberico won the second round of the Mazda Grad Prix of Alabama after finishing fourth in the opening race at Barber Motorsports Park.

Alberico, 22, who won the opening two races of the season on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., last month in a Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing car, holds a 130-122 lead over Santi Urrutia of Team Pelfrey in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires championship standings.

Urrutia was the runner-up in the second race and Garett Grist placed third.

"Perseverance is huge," Alberico said. "The Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing guys have a great deal of belief in my ability and I appreciate that. It can be easy to get discouraged, but they keep me on track."

Weiron Tan of Andretti Autosport won the first race on the 2.3-mile, 17-turn road course, with Timothe Buret of Juncos Racing finishing second and Urrutia third.

The Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires will continue with a triple-header as part of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 7-9. The event will include an additional race to make up for Race 2 at NOLA Motorsports Park, which had been postponed because of adverse weather conditions.
