If Roger Penske was to call your driver five years from now to offer them a ride in a major series, what will you have to do in the interim?

Former Formula One driver Derek Daly and Verizon IndyCar Series director of engineering Jeff Horton will share with parents of young drivers how to prepare for the day when they get the call to step up to the big time in a seminar Friday, Dec. 12, at the Performance Racing Industry show. The 8-9 a.m. seminar will be held in Room 212 of the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

“Developing my driver for a career as a professional race car driver” will address a spectrum of skills -- from working with sponsors to dealing with the media.

Daly is the father of Conor Daly, a rising star who competed in the GP2 series in 2014 and won the Skip Barber National Championship and Star Mazda championship. He made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut in the 2013 Indianapolis 500.

Horton, whose teenage son Chandler is attempting to move through the racing ranks, will join Daly in sharing his insights on how to prepare a young driver for the various demands at the top of the sport.

“We are very excited to have Derek and Jeff host this valuable young driver development seminar,” said John Kilroy, producer of the PRI trade show. “They really believe that racing should be doing all it can to develop the next generation of great drivers, so they’re giving their time, experience and expertise to share their best advice with parents who have talented young drivers in the family.”

There is no charge for admission to the seminar, but all attendees over 16 years old must register for a show credential at www.pri2014.com (for Company on attendee registration form, place your race team name and in the optional information box write “Youth Motor Sports Conference”). Attendees under 16 must receive a wrist band at the registration booth on site.
