Simon Pagenaud

BALTIMORE -- Simon Pagenaud jumped to the top of the time sheet in the final minute of the morning practice preceding qualifications for the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT with a lap of 1 minute, 18.4391 seconds on the 2.04-mile, 12-turn street circuit.

Pagenaud, driving the No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports car, was fifth on the time sheet in the afternoon practice Aug. 30. He's coming off consecutive top-five finishes and was the third-place finisher in the race last September.

The three rounds of qualifying for the Verizon P1 Award begin at noon (ET) with live Timing & Scoring and the IMS Radio Network broadcast on www.indycar.com and the INDYCAR 13 app. NBC Sports Network will broadcast qualifications at 6 p.m.

Will Power set the track record with a lap of 1:17.5921 in qualifications in 2012.

Scott Dixon, who enters Round 16 of 19 second in the championship, was second (18.5486) in the No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car. Power was third (1:18.5826) in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car and Sebastien Bourdais was fourth (1:18.6597) in the No. 7 Dragon Racing car.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing teammates James Jakes (1:18.7980) and Graham Rahal (1:18.9363) were fifth and sixth.

The top 17 cars were separated by less than a second.
