Will Power leads train through Baltimore chicane

BALTIMORE -- Will Power topped a conservative initial practice session on the 2.04-mile, 12-turn temporary street circuit for the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT.

Power, who recorded his first victory of the season Aug. 25 at Sonoma Raceay, posted a lap of 1 minute, 20.8632 seconds in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car. Power holds the track record of 1:17.5921 set in qualifications in 2012.

Another 45-minute session is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (ET). A third 45-minute session at 9:05 a.m. Aug. 31 precedes the three rounds of qualifications (noon) for the Verizon P1 Award.

E.J. Viso was second and Oriol Servia third. The top 15 cars were separated by one second.

Stefan Wilson, making his IZOD IndyCar Series debut in the No. 18 Sonny's BBQ car for Dale Coyne Racing, logged the most laps with 19.

A three-part chicane of curbing each supplemented by a short stack of tires on the Pratt Street frontstretch slows the cars before they cross the light rail tracks.
