Leading the INDY NXT by Firestone standings appears to suit rookie Enzo Fittipaldi.

Less than a week after seizing the top spot in the INDYCAR development series with a victory on the streets of Detroit, Fittipaldi led the opening practice for INDY NXT by Firestone at World Wide Technology Raceway with a best lap of 161.669 in the No. 67 HMD Motorsports car. Myles Rowe, whose two INDY NXT wins have come on ovals, was second at 161.291 in the No. 99 Abel Motorsports with Force Indy machine on the 1.25-mile oval. Salvador de Alba was third at 160.819 in the No. 17 HMD Motorsports entry, giving the team two of the top there spots.

2025 WWTR winner Lochie Hughes opened the defense of his victory in fourth on the speed chart, turning a best lap of 160.815 in the No. 26 Andretti Global machine. His Andretti Global teammate Max Taylor rounded out the top five at 160.199 in the No. 28 Susan G. Komen machine.

Nearly all of the top laps were turned near the end of the 50-minute session, as drivers shifted from finding good balance in traffic for the race to qualifying simulations on fresh tires.

Up next is qualifying at 6 p.m. ET today on FS2. The 75-lap race starts at 5:30 p.m. ET Sunday on FS1. FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls also is providing live coverage of all sessions.
