Biography of Sebastian Saavedra

Sebastian Saavedra joined Firestone Indy Lights in 2009 with AFS Racing / Andretti Autosport before moving to second-year team Bryan Herta Autosport for the 2010 season. He won from the pole at Iowa Speedway in June 2010.

He made his IZOD IndyCar Series debut with Bryan Herta Autosport in the 2010 Indianapolis 500, becoming the first driver born in the 1990s to compete in the Indy 500 and the third from Colombia (Roberto Guerrero and Juan Pablo Montoya). He also ran in the season finale at Homestead-Miami that year. 

He competed the entire 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season with Conquest Racing and finished a career best of 11th at the race in Brazil after starting 23rd.

Saavedra returned to Firestone Indy Lights in 2012 with AFS Racing / Andretti Autosport, finishing fourth in the championship. He joined Dragon Racing for the 2013 season.

• Competed in three IZOD IndyCar Series races for AFS Racing/Andretti Autosprt, with best finish of 15th at Sonoma.
• Finished fourth in Firestone Indy Lights standings for Andretti Autosport.

• Earned pole at Barber, Long Beach and season finale at Fontana.

2011
• Competed in 14 IZOD IndyCar Series races for Conquest Racing, with a best finish of 11th at Sao Paulo.

2010
• Competed in two IZOD IndyCar Series events, making his debut at the Indianapolis 500 with Bryan Herta Autosport.
• Finished 16th for Conquest Racing at Homestead.
• Finished eighth in Firestone Indy Lights standings, with win at Iowa Speedway.

2009
• Finished third in Firestone Indy Lights for AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing with two wins.
• Won at Kansas and Toronto.
• Named Firestone Indy Lights Rookie of the Year.

2008
• Finished second in ATS Formel 3 Cup in Germany with three wins, four poles and eight podium finishes.
• Won races at Hockenheim, Assen and Oschersleben.
• Also competed in Austrian Formula 3 races, finishing ninth.

2007
• Finished eighth in Formula BMW USA for EuroInternational with a win and four podiums in eight starts.
• Won three of six starts in Formula BMW Asia and had one podium finish in two starts in Formula BMW ADAC in Germany.
• Finished fourth in Formula BMW World Final.

2006
• Finished 11th in Formula BMW USA for Gelles Racing.
• Made two starts in Formula BMW ADAC in Germany and competed in the Formula BMW World Final.

Early Career

• Began karting at age 10 and competed in go-karting events in throughout South America and in Europe.

Dragon Racing

Dragon Racing is an IZOD IndyCar Series team owned by Jay Penske, the Chairman and CEO of Penske Media Corporation (PMC).

Dragon Racing began under the original banner of Luczo Dragon Racing founded by both Penske and Steve Luczo, the Chairman and CEO of Seagate Technologies. The team debuted in 2007 at the Indianapolis 500 with driver Ryan Briscoe and finished fifth. In 2009, during the team’s first complete season, it won Rookie of the Year honors with driver Raphael Matos.
