It was a natural that Simona de Silvestro assisted Susan Docherty, president and general manager of Chevrolet Europe, in introducing the Chevrolet Spark EV this week to Europe at the Geneva International Motor Show. She grew up in Thun, Switzerland.

"It's a place that I used to come to a lot when I was little," said de Silvestro, driver of the Chevrolet-powered No. 78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy car for KV Racing Technology. "I've been checking out all the new products (General Motors) has, and I think they have a really cool car that is going to come out this year."

The Spark EV (Electronic Vehicle) will be offered in 2014 by select dealerships in several European countries.

It's quickly back to work for newlywed Kanaan

Mr. & Mrs. Tony KanaanDe Silvestro's new teammate, 2004 IZOD IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan, exchanged wedding vows with Lauren Bohlander on March 8.

Rev. Phil DeRea performed the ceremony, which was attended by Ryan Hunter-Reay, Helio Castroneves, Rubens Barrichello and Gil de Ferran, among others, on the beach.

An extended honeymoon will have to wait. Both Kanaan, entering his third season with KV Racing Technology and driving the No. 11 GEICO/Mouser Electronics car, and de Silvestro will participate in an Open Test on March 12-13 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala.

The season-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is March 22-24 on the 1.8-mile temporary street circuit in Florida.

Stars come out during Long Beach race weekend

Tecate Light welcomes acclaimed Mexican bands Moenia and Moderatto to the Fiesta Friday stage April 19 as part of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach race weekend. The following night, Bret Michaels, lead singer for glam metal rock band Poison, will perform as a solo during the Tecate Light Rock-N-Roar Concert.

On April 18, Paul Tracy and Adrian Fernandez will be inducted into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame. The public is invited to the induction ceremony which will be held at 11 a.m. on South Pine Avenue in front of the Convention Center.

Tracy recorded his first open-wheel race victory at Long Beach in 1990 (Indy Lights). He won the 1993 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, then went on to take the checkered flag in 2000, '03 and '04, tying Mario Andretti for second in wins behind Al Unser Jr.’s six.

Fernandez and co-driver Luis Diaz won the LMP2 class of the American Le Mans Series race at Long Beach in 2009. He had a best IZOD IndyCar Series finish at Long Beach of second in 2003.
