Neil Alberico won five of the six races to clinch the Cooper Tires Winterfest Championship.
Alberico, 20, from Los Gatos, Calif., earned victories Feb. 10 in both of the 21-lap races at the 2.034-mile Palm Beach International Speedway in the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing entry.
Alberico claimed the Cooper Tires Winterfest title with 186 points to the 157 of teammates Scott Hargrove and 107 of James Fletcher. Garret Grist (102), Stefan Rzadzinski (87) and Jesse Lazare (84) rounded out the top six.
“My goal was to run my own race, stay out front and, hopefully, keep it there," Alberico said. "Scott (Hargrove) did a tremendous job all weekend. The first turn is not easy. He puts on a lot of pressure, but fortunately for me I didn’t make too many mistakes. I came out on top again and it feels great."
The first three rounds of the Winterfest took place at Sebring International Raceway earlier in the week. The regular season for the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda will commence at Sebring International Raceway on March 14-15.
“Winterfest was a great experience," Fletcher said. "I learned loads and loads and this past week has been crammed with more racing than I have ever done in the UK in that amount of time. I am still learning the car and we were struggling here a little bit on the pace but we managed to keep a gap, take home some podiums and finish third in the Winterfest. I am really, really happy and I hope the start of the season goes as well.”
