Conor Daly, who competed in Firestone Indy Lights and Star Mazda before testing his mettle in Europe, will drive the No. 14 ABC Supply car for A.J. Foyt Racing during a test session Dec. 13 at Sebring International Raceway.
It will be the first seat time in an IZOD IndyCar Series car for Daly, who turns 21 on Dec. 15.
“Conor Daly is one of the exciting up-and-coming drivers in open-wheel racing today,” team director Larry Foyt said. “I had spoken to Conor at the F-1 race in Austin and I was impressed. I thought this test was a perfect opportunity to see how he works with our team. Depending on how it goes, we may be able to do something with him in the future.”
Daly, a Noblesville, Ind., native, competed in GP3 the past two seasons after winning the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear (seven victories in the 12 races). He earned his initial GP3 victory in the second race of the 2012 season (Barcelona). He earned five podium finishes over the 16 races and was sixth in the standings. On Oct. 27, he won the first race of the MRF Challenge series at Buddh International Circuit in India.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to drive an IndyCar for the first time with A.J. Foyt Racing,” said Daly, who also earned the Skip Barber championship. “I've grown up at the Indy 500 and have always dreamed of getting in an IndyCar someday. I will do the best job I can to get to know the team and complete all the things they've got planned for the test. I can't thank Larry enough for organizing this and taking an interest in my future."
Mike Conway drove the No. 14 car through the first 14 races of the season, and Wade Cunningham filled in at the season finale Sept. 15 at Auto Club Speedway. The 19-race 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season begins March 24 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., where Daly won in Firestone Indy Lights in 2010.
