Bio

Ryan Hunter-Reay burst onto the racing scene in the late 1990s, winning three grand national karting championships before turning his attention to open-wheel cars where he shined in the Barber Dodge Pro Series and Toyota Atlantic Series. In 2003, he moved up to the Champ Car World Series, and became the first American rookie in 20 years to win a race when he took the checkers at Surfers Paradise. He won again the following season dominating the race at Milwaukee in 2004 with Team Herdez.

Hunter-Reay has been a central focus of IZOD's promotional efforts since joining the series as a partner on July 4, 2008. He is featured prominently in print ads and television commercials.

Away from the track, he enjoys boating, jet skiing, big-game fishing, mountain biking and karate.

2009
• Finished 15th in IndyCar Series standings driving for Vision Racing and then A.J. Foyt Racing (11 of 17 races).
• Recorded Vision Racing's best finish of second at opener in St. Petersburg.
• Posted two top-five and three top-10 finishes.

2008
• Finished eighth in IndyCar Series standings for Rahal Letterman Racing.
• Won at Watkins Glen, leading the final nine laps, and had 10 top-10 finishes overall.
• Advanced 14 positions to finish sixth in 92nd Indianapolis 500, earning Chase Rookie of the Year award.

2007
• Won Bombardier Learjet Rookie of Year Award despite joining Rahal Letterman Racing at midseason.
• Finished 19th in IndyCar Series standings with three top-seven finishes in six starts.
• Had best finish of sixth at Michigan.

2007
• Made three Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype starts for Riley Matthews Motorsports with best finish of sixth at Watkins Glen.
• Test driver for Robby Gordon Motorsport in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Car of Tomorrow.
• Competed for A1GP Team USA in New Zealand.

2006
• Made three Rolex Sports Car Series starts, two in GT for SAMAX Motorsport and one in Daytona Prototype for SunTrust Racing, with best finish of third in GT Class at Laguna Seca.
• Selected for General Motors driver development program for NASCAR.

2005
• Finished 15th in Champ Car World Series for Rocketsports Racing with best finish of sixth at Denver and Toronto.

2004
• Finished ninth in Champ Car World Series for Herdez Competition with win from pole at Milwaukee.
• Recipient of the Greg Moore Legacy Award.

2003
• Finished 14th in Champ Car World Series in rookie season for American Spirit Team Johansson.
• Scored first career victory at Surfers Paradise, Australia, becoming first American rookie in more than 20 years to win a Champ Car Race.

2002
• Finished sixth in Toyota Atlantic championship for Hylton Motorsports with three wins (Laguna Seca, Chicago and Cleveland) and three poles.
• Set record for most laps led, most poles, most fastest laps and most track records.
• BBS "Rising Star" Award & World Com "Fastest Driver" Award for most fastest Race laps.

2001
• Finished fifth in the Barber Dodge Pro Series with wins at Lime Rock and Toronto.

2000
• Was Rookie of the Year in the Barber Dodge Pro Series after finishing fifth in the point standings.
• Earned two podium and four top-five finishes.

1999
• Won Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship.
• Won Skip Barber Formula Dodge Eastern Regional Series championship.

1998
