Born and bred in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia, Anthony was a relatively late starter to the Go-Karting sport at the tender age of fourteen. In July 2008, in his first race at the local club, Anthony was hit from behind, sending him airborne and giving him a flying start in the sport. He went on to take third place and hasn’t looked back.
A skilled sportsman, Anthony showed attributes and skills in cricket and soccer. So much so that he was offered to apply for a scholarship in the United States to go to school and develop his soccer abilities. This he knocked back because he knew his future was behind the wheel but when you don’t see him on the track you might catch him refereeing a local soccer game.
Before reaching the senior Go-Karting ranks, Anthony competed in two classes, the ‘Junior National Light and or Heavy’ and ‘Junior Clubman’. In local competitions Anthony has shown his natural driving talent by winning the highest points for the classes in which he drives, in both the 2009 and 2010 season. Of the ten competitors in the ‘Junior National Light’ class and the eight competitors in the ‘Junior Clubman’ class, he blitzed the field both years to take out both Club Championship trophies.
2011 saw Anthony improve in both State and National levels, honing his skills and increasing his knowledge in the more competitive arenas. He also continued to add to his local achievements, and was awarded the Desiree Kinane Memorial Trophy at the 2011 May club run. From a field of twenty local junior drivers, Anthony came out on top and was honoured with the annual trophy, repeating his achievement of May, 2010.
2012 was an exciting year for Anthony. In January, Italian based chassis manufacturer Lenzo Karts invited Anthony to test and train at their track in Brolo Sicily, in the KZ2 kart which he would be racing for the 2012 round of CIK Stars of Karting. Anthony spent ten days under the guidance of Michele Lenzo and his team and was fortunate to have tuition from the current KZ2 World Champion Joey Hanssen. This set the foundations for an exciting year in the gear box class of Go-Karts.
Away from Kalgoorlie, Anthony was recognised in 2011, as a top state junior level driver and was utilised by one of the State’s most recognised dealers, Flat Out Karts, for sponsorship and testing new equipment. Being selected, as a country driver, by a metropolitan manufacturer is a remarkable achievement.
Anthony’s talent, ability and hard work have resulted in some remarkable achievements in a relatively short amount of time, none of which would have been possible without the support of his biggest fans: his Mum, Lee-Anne and Dad, Michael. Their absolute commitment was never clearer than when Anthony was unable to fly out to the third CIK Stars of Karting event in Victoria due to the volcanic ash cloud grounding all flights leaving from Perth airport. Lee-Anne and Michael pulled out all stops to drive Anthony and a fellow competitor across the country in 36 hours to arrive the day of the first practice run.
In 2013 after relocating to Perth, Anthony has made the move from go karts to Formula Ford racing with the successful Fastlane Racing team resulting in the Series Championship Win and Rookie of the Year in his debut year! A country boy with a heart of gold, from Western Australia’s home of gold, Anthony brings his family values, hard-working down-to-earth nature and country resilience to the sport of motor racing.
