Ryan Hunter-Reay, the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series champion, will join more than 2,400 other cyclists this weekend participating in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge in South Florida.
The two-day fund-raising event with ride options from 13 to 170 miles benefits the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, which Hunter-Reay and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline visited Oct. 24. More than $3.8 million has been raised since the inaugural ride in 2010.
Hunter-Reay will ride on Team AutoNation, a partner of the Dolphins Cycling Challenge and a presenting sponsor of Hunter-Reay’s Racing for Cancer organization.
“Nearly one-third of cancer is said to be preventable and with early detection many more cancers can be caught in their early stages,” said Hunter-Reay, whose mother died of colon cancer. “Our goal is to create an awareness of the importance of getting tested.”
Cyclists will be honored and the check from registration and contributions presented to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center during a pregame ceremony of a Miami Dolphins home game.
