IZOD IndyCar points leader Helio Castroneves was not cleared Aug. 10 by doctors in Brazil to compete Aug. 11 in the Stock Car Brasil race in Ribeirao Preto following a crash in practice Aug. 9.

Castroneves suffered a leg cut that required three stitches and reported neck and back pain after his Shell Racing car made driver's side contact with a concrete barrier on the street course and then slammed into a tire barrier.

The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion walked from the wreckage under his own power. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released a short time later.

"The good news (is) I didn't break anything," he said.

Last December, Castroneves, reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Tony Kanaan and Rubens Barrichello competed in the final race of the Stock Car Brasil season. Barrichello, who drove for KV Racing Technology in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season, competes full time in the series this year. He is ninth in the standings, with a high finish of second in Salvador (the first colonial capital of Brazil in the state of Bahia).

Daniel Serra is the championship points leader entering Round 7 of 12.

The next IZOD IndyCar Series race is the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Aug. 25. An Open Test at the road course is scheduled for Aug. 21.
