Festival on Main kicks off Indianapolis 500 activities

Main Street of Speedway, Ind., will be transformed into a celebration of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race when the Indy Family Foundation presents the inaugural “Festival on Main” from 6-10 p.m. May 10.
The street fair will include live music, food and beverages, a custom car and motorcycle show, a special KidZone as well as other family-oriented activities. General admission is free.
IZOD IndyCar Series drivers and local celebrities will participate in a variety of events throughout the evening, including the Celebrity Dunk Tank as well as photo opportunities. The Dallara Racing Experience street-legal two-seat Indy car will give rides throughout the evening, and the Dallara IndyCar Factory will be open for tours.The KidZone will feature bounce houses, pedal cart races, paint your own Hot Wheels cars, obstacle course, Sumo wrestling suits, Fire Safety House demonstrations, glitter tattoo stations and face painting. The fee for the KidZone will be $10 for an unlimited play wristband and $25 for a Family Pack of unlimited play.
Proceeds will be directed to the Indy Family Foundation, a non-profit organization that aids those in the motorsports community who find themselves in financial need due to hardship caused by illness, injury or death.
“We are extremely excited to announce the inaugural Festival on Main this year,” said Heather Carpenter, president of the Indy Family Foundation and wife of IZOD IndyCar Series driver/owner Ed Carpenter. “We feel this event will be a tremendous way for racing fans and the Indianapolis community to kick off the Indy 500 activities. It will be a great way for the families to participate in a street party and will assist a great charitable cause.”
